Description
The Japanese have one of the longest continuous ceramic cultures in the world, with the earliest ceramics dating to around 10 000 BC. This Japanese ceramic platter is from the Mashiko town located in Haga District. Mashiko is known for its pottery, called mashikoyaki. Pottery in Mashiko dates back to the Jōmon and Yayoi periods. Mashikoyaki is often a simple and rustic style, but more modern creative style pottery can also be found in Mashiko.
